I do not know if it's completely illegal to do, be someone on AIM. It would be desirable that people who do not display their names to be informed and keep in touch with AOL.
I'm pretty sure that there is no way to find out who did it though.
If you are threatened or harassed, or otherwise, but that is illegal, but is considered the same as any other form of harassment.
